Château Le Boulay

This is a small château in the bucolic Mayenne département near the Brittany border.    Château Le Boulay is a 19th century home built in the style of the 18th century and situated at the edge of the village La Roë on six acres of parkland and mature trees.  The site belonged to the Abbey at La Roë which still stands today in the center of the village and dates from 1096. You will find the history of the château and the abbey most interesting.    The Abbey was founded by a hermit, Robert d'Arbrissel, who went on to found the Royal Abbey at Fontevraud where the English Kings Henry II and Richard the Lionheart are interred. There are many attractions in the area around Le Boulay, and Geneviève and Robin Mitchell will happily arrange a guided tour of the Abbey, where courses and exhibitions are held throughout the summer, or a visit to the local windmill.   Also, they may direct guests to the nearby water sports center and  bird sanctuary, book a game of golf or tennis,  or make dinner reservations at one of several local restaurants.  All guest rooms at Château Le Boulay are tastefully appointed and furnished in either French or English period furniture.  The bedrooms on the first floor are classical in style with marble fireplaces,  while those on the second floor are rustic in design with exposed beams.  Each guest room has views over the park or open countryside.  You are welcome to explore the grounds and to enjoy the pastoral beauty of the Mayenne, or to browse in the basement brocante where you may find a memento of your visit to Château Le Boulay.
