| A fairy tale, whirlwind romance led to the purchase of this incredible château in the bucolic département of the Cher in France's Centre. The young proprietors left their engineering careers in Scotland to become châtelain and châtelaine of Château de Charly, a residence on thirty-two beautiful, walled, park-like acres. Restoration was done by the new lord of the manor with great care and attention to detail in a brief seven months to ready the château for their 2006 wedding. In fact, Jason and Philippa's move to France was the subject of Channel 5 TV's program 'Build a New Life in the Country', which told of their brief courtship, their dream to own a chambres d'hôtes in France, and the nearly single-handed effort by Jason to renovate the château which included all new electrics and plumbing. Today, Château de Charly is a sparkling jewel in the Loire, offering warmth, comfort and luxury as a five-star establishment. The château was constructed in 1838 by Monsieur Chenu in the neo-classical style with perfect symmetry and enhanced with classical details. The grounds were once home to a monastery which was destroyed in the Revolution, but from which remains one ancient gate, now the proud possession of Jason and Philippa Park. Next to the château is a magnificent twelfth century church with a fine painted ceiling ~ a rare example, as few can be found in twenty-first century France. Château de Charly's enthusiastic and charming proprietors are eager to welcome guests to the home they plan to stay in forever. They thoroughly enjoy discovering the wildlife on their estate ~ a variety of interesting creatures which they will be happy to introduce to their guests. The guest suites are spacious, beautifully appointed and furnished with taste and the comfort of their occupants in mind. Fantastic modern bathrooms, many with freestanding footed tubs in the center of the room and large walk-in showers, offer views over the verdant landscape surrounding the château. The small village of Charly, just beyond the château walls, is from a storybook, too! Guests of the château will find themselves surrounded by tranquility to erase the stress of their workaday lives ~ a truly relaxing vacation can be experienced in this delightful 19th century home. This is the perfect bed and breakfast destination in the Loire where travelers can avail themselves of day trips to the grand châteaux, local village markets or the city of Bourges and then retreat to the château for a lovely dinner and quiet night in country silence. Prices: € 160 per night (€ 150 low season). € 10 per night discount for reservations of five nights or longer. Extra beds available in suites € 30 per night. Second child's room available with Rose Suite for € 50 per night. Renting the Château: Catered with 4 evening meals € 7400 per week high season; € 6000 low season. Included: French breakfast 7 days; 4-course dinner with wine 4 days; daily maid service and linens. 30% deposit to hold reservation + full payment 2 weeks prior to arrival. Directions:
From Paris by auto take the A6 south to the A77 direction Nevers. Follow the A77 around Nevers to the intersection of the D976 direction la Guerche and Nérondes. At Nérondes, turn left onto the D6, direction Charly. Drive about 15 kms to the village of Charly, and about 150m past the bar (The Cheval Blanc) and the church,you will see the gates to the Château on the right hand side. From Bourges by auto take the D976 direction Nérondes/Nevers and turn right onto the D6. Follow above directions.
