Château de Labessière

Château de Labessière

Lorraine is a beautiful part of France, and the Meuse département is lovely and tranquil.  Those familiar with the battles in France during World War I know, however, that the region experienced great suffering and loss.  Visitors who are interested in that history would do well to stay at Château de Labessière while making day trips to the nearby battlefields or visiting the monuments such as the Ossuaire or Museum of Verdun.

Your host at Château de Labessière, René Eichenauer, offers a unique package for guests.  The guest room, breakfast, an apéritif, and dinner with wine and brandy afterwards are all included in the very reasonable price.   His wife, Marie-José is a fine chef, so you will dine on exceptional French cuisine.  And, all guests who book through au Château are presented a welcoming bottle of regional wine upon their arrival!

Guest rooms are spacious yet cozy, each furnished and decorated richly providing both style and elegance for its occupants.  All rooms have en suite bathrooms, of course.  [If you would like to rent an entire place for a week or longer, the Eichenauer's offer their cottage, Le Logis de Beaulieu,  that will accommodate 2 to 8 people and which is located 25 kilometers north of Verdun near the A4 autoroute from Paris.  Gîtes de France gives it a 3 'epis' rating.  Prices for the gîte can be found on Labessière's web site, the link to which is on their au Château page.]

Guest RoomSteeped in history, this lovely château was built in 1720 by an aristocrat from Castres and Languedoc.   It remained in the Labessière family until the last count died in 1957.  The present owners purchased the château in 1981 and spent seven years restoring it to its former glory.

Visitors will especially enjoy the Meuse département for its dense forests offering serenity and its tranquil waters that are almost poetic in their beauty.  Guests of Labessière can spend their days horseback riding, fishing, or taking leisurely cruises on the  nearby canals.  To explore the area more closely, well-marked footpaths invite walkers or the

Most of all, guests will find their hosts delightfully warm and welcoming, eager to assist them in both the exploration of historic sites in the region and to help them discover the tranquil beauty of the Meuse and Lorraine.  We hope you will visit their pages on our web site soon to read more about Labessière and to see other photos.  You will find a stay at Château de Labessière rewarding on every level.
