Château d'Hattonchâtel

This stunning castle, set in the verdant Lorraine countryside, invites you to visit ~ it is not simply a country château but a very unique and magical property.  Chateau d'Hattonchâtel is a prestigious and authentic château with its primary architecture originating in the 9th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. Grand rooms with Gothic arches and windows are perfect for celebration dinners, weddings, or large family gatherings.  Businesses will find the château ideal for seminars and conferences, while families and groups of friends will appreciate its charm, comfort and the superb photo opportunities to memorialize their special events.  Walled in and very private, Château d'Hattonchâtel has been completely updated with all modern conveniences while remaining true to the history and architecture of this important castle.  Built on the remnants of a ninth century fortress high on a promontory overlooking the Plaine de la Woëvre and named for the ninth century Bishop of Verdun, Château d'Hattonchâtel offers those who stay here a unique perspective of the lovely Lorraine region of France. Cardinal Richelieu had parts of the building destroyed in 1634, and following World War I, Belle Skinner, an American, fell in love with the village and helped to restore the castle.  Today, with its superb location between the peaceful River Meuse and the River Moselle in the Park Naturel Régional de Lorraine, the château is well placed  for nature walks, water sports on Lac de Madine, or visits to historic sites of World War I and the city of Nancy with its fine museums, opera, ballet, symphony and reputation as a center for Art Nouveau.  The château itself offers six spacious en suite bedrooms, all with panoramic views over the grounds and countryside beyond.  The château only provides accommodations in conjunction with events held at the château or will rent to a minimum of twelve guests to occupy the six guest rooms.   Guests can also arrange to have dinner prepared for them at the château with prior reservations.  Weddings are especially lovely if held here ~ there is a church in the village for use by special agreement with the Bishop of Verdun, or marriage ceremonies can be performed in the gardens when weather permits or indoors in the Grande Salle.  All arrangements for weddings or large celebrations can be made with the on site managers including catering, wine selection, music, photography, flowers and other details. The Lorraine is the only region of France to border three other countries: Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, so it is convenient to residents of those countries and convenient for those who wish to travel to them from France.  For those interested in the battlefields of World War I and visiting the museums and cemeteries associated with it, the château is convenient to all the sites and the historic city of Verdun.  You will not be disappointed if you reserve Château d'Hattonchâtel for your next visit to France ~ it is a welcoming and elegant castle offering luxurious accommodations and beautiful scenery, and it will provide lasting happy memories of your time in Lorraine.
