| At
the top of a hill overlooking the Bay of Le Mont Saint-Michel stands the
intriguing Château Les Hauts, nestled in its own floral and wooded
gardens and protected from any strong breezes coming off the sea.
The gardens are bathed in sunlight and the scent of rare and exotic plants
perfumes the air. If panoramic vistas are what you are seeking, go
no farther -- the view is magic!
From nine of the château's ten guest rooms there is the stunning view of Le Mont Saint Michel and the sea. Both sunrise and sunset over Le Mont Saint-Michel are spectacular. For the more adventurous visitor, strolls along the cliffs are an option, or one can cross the bay of Mont Saint-Michel (about seven kilometers as the crow flies), as did the pilgrims in times gone by, on foot or horseback while accompanied by a guide. The château itself is very pleasant and has a rich history. Reconstructed in the 19th century on the ashes of a medieval castle, its south-facing aspect allows it to soak up the warm sunlight pouring into its rooms. Large bedrooms, many with balconies, are furnished with antiques and canopied beds and all have en suite bathrooms with showers. The Suite Napoléon III has a private entrance, a twin room, a queen-sized bed in a second room, two bathrooms and a balcony facing Le Mont. Bedrooms are non-smoking. The house is filled with medieval art, especially in the style of Violet le Duc, and guests will enjoy many amenities such as a piano, billiard table and inviting fireplaces. History has left its mark on Château Les Hauts, and both André and Suzanne Leroy will relate its story and that of this rich coastal region. Perhaps you will stay in the Eisenhower Guest Room where the General slept in the canopied bed. It was near the end of World War II in 1944 when he visited the château, enjoying quiet, pensive strolls along the gentle garden slopes and appreciated the magical view of Le Mont. Today, guests will find a warm welcome and an exceptional place to stay, beginning each day with a wonderful French breakfast offering a variety of tastes from the region. From the moment one arrives to a welcoming apéritif of 'Pommeau', home-made by host, André, to that moment when it is time to reluctantly bid adieu, each guest will sense that there is magic in the air. The Château Les Hauts is a very special place overlooking one of France's most visited monuments. Don't miss the opportunity to discover it! |
