Château de Martory

Although certainly a beautiful and classic castle, Château de Saint Martory offers more than charm!  First, it is surrounded by a delightful and extensive landscape of forty hectares of lawns and specimen trees.  Included in that landscape is a large swimming pool with uninterrupted views.  Second are those views ~ from the pool or from the windows of the château one can see the impressive and dramatic Pyrénées mountain range or the sparkling River Garonne.  And, finally, is the comfort to be found in the six spacious and luxurious guest rooms that have been decorated with superb taste taking into account the comfort of those who will occupy them.  There are three additional guest rooms in the Farmhouse which are included in the château rental should guests need additional accommodations.  The château's life began in 1530 when it was built by the Montpezat family, lords of Tajan and Saint Martory.  Centuries later, in 1860, architect Victor Ruprich-Robert, who was also the General Inspector of Historical Monuments, undertook renovation of the château at the request of the new owner, the Prince of Berghes.  It was quite recently in 1998 when the current owner, Jean-François Delort, and his family purchased the château and fully renovated it to ensure total comfort and high standards for themselves and their guests.   Château de Saint Martory, with its classic entry gate in the village of Saint Martory, is a landmark listed with ISMH (the Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques) and is just 45 minutes from the lively city of Toulouse.  This is a jewel of a château located in a beautiful forested region of southwest France and directly on the banks of the River Garonne.  Rented in its entirety, it is ideally suited to families and friends who want to spend a holiday to the manor born!  In additional to the beautiful en suite guest rooms in the château overlooking the park or river and taking in the distant views, the château also offers two dining rooms, an office, billiard room, formal salon, summer kitchen and dining area.  Fully staffed, Château de Saint Martory is rented out with maid and cook, so all meals are available without prior reservation. Guests indicate their culinary preferences and pay for the food and wine directly to the cook    Nearby, day trips will entice the château guests:  St Gaudens is an eleventh century fortified village, with buildings from medieval times as well as the 18th and 19th centuries; the town of Foix, dominated by its famous castle and rich with 15,000 years of history is an easy drive; and Lourdes, to the west of Saint Martory, can be visited as well to see the Notre Dame of Lourdes Sanctuaries or the fortified castle successively a military fortress taken (as legend has it) by Charlemagne in 778, a state prison, the residence of the counts of Bigorre in the 16C and 17C, among other transformations.   Lovers of the out-of-doors will appreciate the countryside, and enthusiasts of winter sports will find the proximity to the Pyrénées quite appealing.  In all, this château is the perfect destination at any time of year and is sure to please the most discriminating of travelers.
