Bordeaux estate that has grown grapes and produced fine wines for more
than three centuries is very prestigious indeed. Add to that long
history a beautiful 18th century château offering splendid guest
accommodations, and you have the ideal vacation destination: Château
Meyre. Guests can immerse themselves in the enchanting and
peaceful Médoc wine country and still have convenient access to
the city of Bordeaux with its fine museums, restaurants and cultural attractions.
The surrounding villages and vineyards draw wine connoisseurs from the
world over, and there is much to explore in this very special part of France.
The château, ideally located between the vineyards of Moulis and Margaux, has been recently renovated to offer sumptuous guest rooms filled with tapestries, country French furniture and antiques, each with its own modern, en suite bathroom. Upon arrival, guests receive a complimentary half bottle of wine, and each morning a delicious continental breakfast including croissants, yogurt, fruit juice, tea and coffee is served in the château dining room. The history of Château Meyre is woven into the history of wine in the region ~ it was in 1876 that the estate was listed among the best growths in Avensan, and in 1932 its wines were classified as Cru Bourgeois. Château Meyre was purchased in 1998 from the Lenôtre family of Paris. The estate covers seventeen hectares of the best plots of land near Avensan, 30 kilometers north of Bordeaux. In 1992, the domain was expanded to the Margaux area through the acquisition of two hectares of vines around the village of Soussans, enabling Château Meyre to produce a Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc and a Margaux from these two quite distinct "terroirs". Grapes are hand-harvested each year and traditional methods are used throughout the winemaking process. Wine aficionados will be impressed by the many awards the château has won for its wines including a four stars out of five from La Revue de Vin de France and a Gold Medal in the Japan Wine Challenge 2002 for their L'Enclos Gallen Margaux 1999 vintage among several other wine awards. Guests are warmly welcomed to the château from March to November where they can discover the pleasures of wine tasting in a unique and inviting country setting. Château Meyre is the ideal location for corporate retreats and seminars with accommodation for up to eighteen people. The château provides self-drive tours, but they must be booked well in advance. Château Meyre is definitely an up and coming domaine in the world of French wines, as well as a marvelous place to settle in for several days ~ a superb base for touring the Bordeaux region. |
