The Château and its Gardens

This raised garden behind the château is a tranquil space for contemplative strolls or to enjoy the magnificent views of the countryside and tiny village of Usseau.    The château's position on high ground is just one more detail that adds to its elegance and emphasizes its importance in the region.

The ramparts of the château remind one of the exciting history associated with this now peaceful place.  Built of the local tuffeau stone, the château is a soft cream color with a contrasting slate roof.  In keeping with its history, it even has a medieval garden. 
 

The location,  with exceptional unending views of the countryside in every direction,  gives a sense of the centuries of regional prominence and importance enjoyed by Château de la Motte.  The château dominates the landscape ~ here accented by fields of rapeseed in bloom.
