| If complete luxury infused with fascinating French history is what you are seeking, then Château de Reignac should be your destination in France's Loire Valley. It is near the city of Tours that had its beginnings as a Gallo-Roman settlement, later became known as the cradle of the French Renaissance, and which today is a vibrant center of culture. The château, inherited by the Général Marquis de La Fayette (of American Revolution fame) from his mother, is incredibly beautiful and seems as though it should be an historic government monument instead of a warm and welcoming bed and breakfast. But, we ordinary travelers can experience life in this great testament to French history by simply making a reservation! This four-star rated château/hôtel is fully staffed to provide guests with an incredible experience from the elegant and beautifully decorated guest rooms to the charming dining room. History has left its mark on this exquisite château: in the 15th century the du Fau family acquired the fiefdom and built a fortified castle, from which only the two round towers on the west side remain. Jehan du Fau was the Grand Master of the King's Residence in Loches for King Louis XI. The secretary of state under King Henri III and Henri IV, Pierre Forget, then acquired the property ~ he was responsible for drawing up the Edict of Nantes. Later, the castle became the property of Aymard de Chouppes (for whom the dining room is named) who was Chevalier of the King's Order, King's Counselor, and Lieutenant General of his armies under his childhood friend, King Louis XIII. It wasn't until about 1710, when Count Louis de Barberin took the reins, that the château was adapted to 'modern' times. The moat was filled in, a vast and beautiful park and garden were designed, and the east wing of the home was added. A chapel, dedicated to Saint Louis was built as an extension of the château, and its foundation was blessed on July 30, 1717. It wasn't until many years later that the Général Marquis de La Fayette inherited the château from his mother, Marie Julie de la Rivière (Louis de Barberin's great-granddaughter). The Marquis and his wife, Adrienne de Noailles, stayed at Reignac frequently until 1792 when they relinquished their ownership of the château. Today, recently restored and redecorated by proprietor, Erick Charrier, the Château de Reignac remains an uniquely elegant home in the Valley of the Kings. Those staying here will feel the presence of these famous owners of the past, yet will appreciate the modern comforts of the twenty-first century. There are numerous spacious guest rooms, all en suite, with large, comfortable beds, original French period writing desks and seating areas, incredible views over the grounds from the large windows, and an ambiance one can only find in an important and historic residence. The château is also available for weddings, family gatherings or corporate functions throughout the year. Château de Reignac's beauty and charm is only exceeded by its historic legacy ~ a truly French experience that no traveler to the Loire Valley should miss. |

Directions:
From Paris: by auto A 10 direction Bordeaux to Exit 23 (Châteauroux). After traffic lights, make a left direction Loches onto the D 143. Travel 25 kilometers and after Cormery turn left direction Reignac-sur-Indre. The château is about 800 meters farther. From Bordeaux: by auto take the A10 direction Paris to Exit 25 (Sainte-Maure de Touraine) and follow direction Manthelan onto the D760. In Manthelan proceed in the direction of Reignac on the D58.. Proceed about 800 meters to the château. Airport:
