Château Le Roure
The south of France, in the heart of the Drôme provençale,  is home to the lovely 18th and 19th century Château Le Roure on four hectares of park near the River Rhône and the Canal de Mondragon.  The region is lush and bucolic, inviting visitors to discover it -- undisturbed by too many tourists and presenting a unique look into French life.  Offering guests five comfortable and aesthetically pleasing rooms or suites with contemporary en suite bathrooms, the proprietors have even more surprises in store!  Philippe Lhopital's skills as a chef will not go unnoticed when guests gather in the lovely dining room to enjoy dinner by candlelight and selections from a menu that includes Taboulé aux écrevisses or Pain de Lotte, Sauce Mousseline or Ravioles à la crème de ciboulette and Filet de Rascasse et sa fondue d'oignons and Tomate provençale et mousse d'aubergines.  Guests at the table will then enjoy a selection of local cheeses following by such mouthwatering desserts as Fondant au chocolat et sa crème anglaise vanillée à la cannelle or Fondant aux marrons et sa sauce au chocolat liquoreuse.  These choices are just a small sampling of the fine cuisine offered at Château Le Roure.  Enjoyable strolls in the garden after dinner will draw each perfect day to a close.  There are several comfortable salons where guests can read, play a game of chess, plan the following day's activities or converse with other guests -- your hosts want you to make yourself at home!  A swimming pool is provided for a place to relax or for an enjoyable swim on the warmer days.  Château Le Roure also has facilities for weddings, receptions and seminars and all necessary accouterments are provided from beautiful linens to apéritifs before meals.   The region offers visitors pleasant and scenic country roads for leisurely drives, stunning hill villages, the vineyards of popular Rhône appellations, fine dining and glorious weather -- all not very far from the Mediterranean.  History buffs will enjoy the numerous arenas, the aqueduct of Pont du Gard, and other work of the Romans who left this part of France rich with remnants of their time in Gaul.  The warmth and comfort of Château Le Roure will provide a perfect home base from which to visit so many interesting and historic places as well as a perfect retreat at the end of a busy day.
