The château boasts an historic link to the conclusion of World War II as the Surrender of Cherbourg, also known as the Treaty of Servigny, was signed here.  The Treaty Room, with the actual desk where the signing took place and photographs of the event on its walls, is testament to this historic occasion.  It is part of the private rooms used by the owners, but it will be shown to guests of the château if they request. 

The architecture of the château is very pleasing to the eye.  Built on the remains of a 16th century manor, it goes back even further into history as it is one of the rare Gallo-Roman estates (late BC era) existing in the region.  There is a feudal mound in the garden which was the foundation of the ancient keep.  Visitors will enjoy walking the Path of Sighs where they will discover the ancient Roman road.  A wash house and well still stand near the path.  Following the Gallo-Roman era, a pottery center existed on this site which dated back to pre-Carolingian times (prior to the 8th century)...it was a tiny village bordered by a river and small wood of willow trees.  All that is remaining of the 16th century is the turret and arrow slits.  The rest of the manor was burned to the ground by the English in the Hundred Years War.   Tying the château to its present owners is the fact that their ancestors, the Meurdrac family of knights, owned it in the 14th century. 

Today, this incredibly beautiful example of French architecture serves as a welcoming retreat for those seeking calm and beauty in the Norman countryside.  Elegantly decorated in 18th century French style by some of the leading names in European interior design, rooms created using objects from Murano, Rubelli, Aubusson and other renowned houses, and taking advantage of the skills of local craftspersons, the château provides a pure, French experience for all who live here ~ if even for a week or two!  On the practical side is a large, user-friendly kitchen, a spacious dining room with a grand fireplace, a Louis XVI drawing room / library which is especially conducive to relaxation and reading, a smaller Louis XVI games and music room for guests to play the piano or take on an opponent in a game of  backgammon, and a billiards room.  There is even a recreation room for children in the 17th century outbuilding.  For those who can't forego their connection to the world of technology while living in an historic residence, the château is equipped with satellite television, and Internet connections can be found in the guest rooms.  The grounds offer a fine vegetable garden, numerous 19th century 'follies', a small manor in a child's scale, a chapel, a temple dedicated to Nature, and rare plant species such as araucaria, gingkos and palms that flourish here thanks to the warm air brought by the Gulf Stream.  Most guests will be especially pleased with the presence of a heated swimming pool. 

With eight guest rooms, all en suite, historical significance and modern comforts, Château de Servigny is exceptional among the places you could select to vacation in Normandy.

From Paris  take the A13 autoroute (330 kms/3 hours) from Paris past Caen (N13) and Bayeux as far as Valognes, then take the D87 to Yvetôt-Bocage.  Château is signposted.

From Cherbourg Take the N13 south to Valognes to Yvetôt at the D87.  Proceed as above. By ferry landing at Cherbourg, 20 kms/20 minutes.  Le Havre, (200 kms) 2 hours; Calais Port (450 kms), 4 hours.

Railway: Paris - Valognes : 2 hours 40 minutes Valognes station (3 Km) : 3 minutes

Airport: Cherbourg Maupertus Airport (20 kms) about 20 minutes or Caen-Carpiquet Airport (100 km), 1 hour, direct by A13 autoroute
