| The
Savoie is a remarkable département in the Rhône-Alpes
region of France ~ lovely valleys and the majestic French alps combine
with lush forests and historic towns and cities to create a worthwhile
destination to anyone visiting this exceptional country.
Amid those mountains and valleys is the ancient and impressive Château St-Philippe on seventeen acres of land and first constructed in 1032. This is a time that some call the early Medieval period but its construction may have foretold the end of the Dark Ages, as it was built as a priory for Benedictine monks. Its location is perfect for skiers as Chamonix is only 75 miles away and Albertville, home of the '92 Winter Olympics, is closer at 18 miles. The château is under new American ownership, and over the past few years has been completely and sympathetically restored to create a luxurious and absolutely stunning rental property for the use of family and friends celebrating a grand occasion or just looking for the perfect vacation getaway. Offering ten spacious en suite bedrooms, a formal dining room, salon, library, grand reception room, games room, home theatre, laundry room and nine fireplaces, guests will find nothing lacking at Château St-Philippe. Add both east- and south-facing decks, an office with a fax machine and copier, WiFi Internet access, caves and a barn, and the estate is a self-sustaining property for four or more days away from the rest of the world. Those who love the outdoors will find Château St-Philippe the perfect base for their daily activities from hiking, walking and mountain climbing to sailing, skiing and paragliding. Horseback riding, fishing and cycling are also local pastimes, and for those interested in the region's wines, cheeses or history, tours are readily available. The fresh mountain streams and lakes are excellent for swimming, too! An American couple manages the château and lives on site in their own apartment, so all needs and questions can be easily addressed. Guests will find them helpful in many ways including arranging tours and finding caterers when required. The château is a spectacular venue for weddings, anniversary celebrations, birthday parties and other important events. We know those who consider renting this stately château will have no regrets and only wonderful memories. When the château isn't rented, guests can avail themselves of wonderful bed and breakfast accommodations. The château and its dramatically beautiful location make a stay in the Savoie exceptional and truly memorable. |
