  Southern Exposure

  Southern face of Hôtel Tardif
The southern sunlight bathes the Hôtel Tardif creating a spot to sit and enjoy some leisure moments during your visit to Bayeux.  The main spire of the Cathédrale de Notre-Dame de Bayeux can be seen above the roof of the hôtel, a monument completed in 1077 after thirty years of construction by the half-brother of William the Conqueror, Bishop Eudes de Conteville.  It burned down in 1105, but was ambitiously reconstructed.  With Romanesque beginnings, the cathedral evolved in the thirteenth century into a half Gothic structure, and the two architectural styles blend beautifully.  How wonderful to walk from your lodging at Hôtel Tardif for a minute or two and be at this historic catherdral!
