Château des Tesnières

Château des Tesnières looks like a castle from a classic French fairy tale!  Neo-Renaissance in architectural style, the château was built in 1867 by the Count of Langle near some ruins of a manor destroyed during the French Revolution and is set on fifteen acres of magnificent parkland.  The Langle family inhabited the château until World War II and then again until 1976.  It was in 2003 that the current owners purchased the château to transform it into a deluxe chambres d'hôtes.  And what a magnificent transformation it is!  There are lawns for strolling, century-old cedars and oak trees for shade, small woods to explore, meadows to enjoy  and peaceful water accents such as lily ponds inhabited by frogs, salamanders and waterfowl  -- an exceptional and tranquil environment for a stay in Brittany.   Throughout the park there is comfortable seating for relaxation and to take time for quiet meditation.  The château was completely restored in 2004 and guests will find the rooms of the château no less inspiring than the parklands.  Comfort and convenience can be found throughout this refined home where guests are treated royally by their hosts, John and Siebren Demandt Boon -- and where they will feel at ease speaking English, French, German or Dutch with the Boons.  On the ground floor is a comfortable library, a Louis XVI salon and a dining room, all with period fireplaces.   In one of the two towers, the one adjoining the dining room,  is a self-service bar for guests offering cool drinks, coffee or tea at any time of day.  In the tower by the grand salon is an office area -- a personal computer with Internet access is at the disposal of guests.   Spacious contemporary guest rooms and suites, all with their own private baths and showers, complete the picture.  Guests of the château will relish the copious breakfasts in the lovely dining room, and excellent cuisine can be enjoyed at fine nearby restaurants just minutes away -- three rating Michelin stars!  Group events including business seminars are held at the château,  and all equipment necessary for meetings can be provided.   Your hosts guarantee fine service and discretion to all guests of  Château des Tesnières   The region offers many activities and the château is convenient to important sites including Le Mont Saint Michel, the gardens that make the Ille-et-Vilaine département of Brittany so appealing, and only five minutes from the little village of Torcé dating back to 1093 with its splendid fifteenth century Ëglise St-Médard .  Golfers will enjoy the fine 18-hole par 71 golf course in Vitré, while others will find the town's equestrian center the place to be.  The Base Nautique de Haute-Vilaine offers a large selection of activities on the water including rowing and sailing.  Travelers to this truly lovely part of eastern Brittany, not far from the Normandy border, will find themselves immersed in history and trying to decide between the many pastimes available to them.  One decision that will be easy to make is to stay at Château des Tesnières while enjoying this spectacular region of France.
