| Provence
evokes so many pleasant images and calls to each of us to come and enjoy
its incredible sights, sounds and smells ~ from the beauty of its rolling
landscape to the sound of a game of boules in a village square to the fragrance
of lavender ~ it is always a special experience. In the midst
of it all is Domaine le Vallon, in the heart of Vaucluse wine country,
near the great market town of Carpentras and yet secluded and peaceful
enough to provide its guests with a truly calming and rejuvenating vacation.
The 18th century manor house was once part of a 1250-acre estate, land which was divided over the years ~ the Domaine still maintains its position in a lovely park which guests find tranquil and inspiring. The proprietors, Fred and Michèle Vogt, became owners of the Domaine recently, and are eager to share it with guests from all over the world. Michèle, who is French, loves to cook and paint watercolors. Fred, who is an engineer from Holland, finds the Roman architecture of Provence fascinating, and he provides advice on the region's real estate market and renovation projects for newcomers to Provence. He is also doing research at the départementale archives in Avignon to learn more about the Domaine's history. The location of Domaine le Vallon is ideal: just 3 miles from Carpentras and its lively market and 11 miles from Avignon, home of the Palais des Papes. The property is bordered by olive and truffle trees, cypresses and plane trees. The view of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail reminds one of the famous artists, such as Cézanne, who found Provence so stimulating. For those interested in visits to vineyards and enjoying fine Provençal wines, the Domaine is centrally located among the vineyards of Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Beaume de Venise. And, only 8 miles away is the village of Châteauneuf du Pape and its world-famous wines. Your hosts will welcome you with a drink ~ the "coup du coeur du Vallon" ~ in the shade of their plane trees. Absolutely beautiful bedrooms await guests, decorated in lively Provençal colors and style. Common rooms are cheerful and comfortable, encouraging guests to gather for meals and conversations. The 18th century dining room is especially pleasant with long windows permitting the sunlight of southern France to brighten the day as one enjoys a bountiful breakfast, or this first meal of the day can also be taken in the garden. In the heat of the day, guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the salt water swimming pool, or relax poolside with a cool drink from the summer kitchen. Evening meals are not available at the Domaine, but, if you wish to explore the fine restaurants in the local villages, Orange or Avignon, your helpful hosts will be happy to make reservations on your behalf. Whatever your interests, from cycling and golf to dining and shopping, Domaine le Vallon is perfectly situated as a home base. If you are interested in visiting the well-preserved Roman arenas and other reminders of the Roman presence in France or historic monuments in the area, once again the Domaine is convenient to those. Nature lovers will adore the region and will find everything from the Gorges de la Nesque to the Camargue nearby. We hope you will discover Domaine le Vallon for yourself and enjoy the peacefulness and charm of this much-loved Provençal home. |
