Château de Vaudezert

Château de Vaudezert is a lovingly-restored Normandy château that is both inviting and well located for anyone looking for a quality accommodation in an area rich with medieval villages and fascinating history.  This beautiful château is set in the National Park of Normandie-Maine, just ten kilometers from both the spa town of Bagnole de l'Orne and the medieval town of Domfront.

Constructed about 1850, the château was a family residence until 1920 when it was presented to the local church in Domfront for use as a retreat for its priests.   During World War II, the château was taken over by the occupying army until the Americans liberated the area and the château in August 1944, which they, in turn, used as a hospital. In 1949, the chapel was built which is now used as a dining room for family celebrations and wedding receptions.

In 2003 the present owners purchased the château from the estate of Monsieur Charbonnel whose dream was to make it a family holiday home.  His death in 2001 meant that he never realized that dream, but the gracious Blanshard family has created a most comfortable and inviting guest house as well as a year 'round family residence.  The guest suite is named for the Charbonnel family and for which M. Charbonnel's widow and daughter have chosen the theme of horses and hunting.

Suite Madeline is named for Madeline, the cook who lived in the Pavillon with her husband who was the estate's gardener.  Their passion was flowers, so the room has a floral theme.  Suite Fourée will soon be completed to accept additional bed and breakfast guests and is named in honor of the son of the guardian who lived here during the war and whose passion was music.

For those interested in a week-long, self-catering accommodation on the grounds of this beautiful château, they should consider La Maison du Gardien sleeping six comfortably.  See a detailed description below.

Guests of Château de Vaudezert will not only find the area surrounding the château and the grounds beautiful and peaceful and their accommodation perfect,  but they will enjoy the brand new heated pool (4m x 8m) in 2010.  The warm welcome guests receive from the Blanshards will make their time at the Château filled with happy moments they will long remember.
