| For
those who want to be but five minutes from the Provençal city of
Avignon as well as a short drive from the Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gard,
Château de la Vernède is the ideal rental choice for a group
of family or friends. This vine-covered, charming château dates
from the 14th century and was the residence where bishops were housed while
waiting for audiences with the Pope at the grand Palais des Papes
in Avignon. In the 19th century, the entire property was beautifully
restored, and more recently it was renovated to offer ten bedrooms, all
en suite, for those lucky enough to enjoy some time here.
Blending the historic past with twenty-first century comfort and amenities, Château de la Vernède is a beautiful château with long windows, spacious rooms, and comfortable furnishings ~ all surrounded by amazing gardens, terraces and a secluded swimming pool. The château offers its occupants air conditioning, satellite television, high-speed Internet access, a stereo system as well as the day-to-day conveniences like a dishwasher, iron, clothes washer and dryer. Guest rooms also have hair dryers in the en suite bathrooms, a safe for valuables, and are non-smoking. The bedrooms are decorated tastefully and elegantly, each one in its own color palette and style. There is a ground floor bedroom with an en suite bathroom and its own private terrace. It shares this floor with the salon with a fireplace, study, a fully-equipped kitchen with professional range, dishwasher and large refrigerator/freezer, and a fine dining room with a vaulted ceiling. The first floor offers nine additional en suite bedrooms, each with its own unique décor and ambiance. The master suite provides its occupants with a fine canopy bed, a balcony with lovely views of the gardens, a small adjoining bedroom ideal for a child, and a fine en suite bathroom. Those who make this château their own for a week or more will find themselves outdoors as much as indoors ~ spacious shady terraces abound, one whose centerpiece is a lush lily pond ~ and no one will take for granted the fine swimming pool surrounded by lush greenery. Comfortable lounges line the pool where guests can relax when not taking a refreshing swim. The terraces are perfect for outdoor dining or gathering together to sit and admire the gardens after a day of visiting the many attractions in the Gard and Provence. Château de la Vernède is well located for easy access to so many wonderful attractions and villages, and it is in the center of the most important remnants of Roman construction and architecture in France, from the arenas at Arles and Nîmes to the theatre at Orange and the massive aqueduct, Pont du Gard. With beautiful weather and easy access to the Mediterranean coast, your decision to stay at Château de la Vernède will be a wise one. |
