Villes et Villages de France

. . . we hope to tempt you to visit these marvelous places
when you are roaming through the French countryside.

Barfleur, Normandy
 Barfleur, Normandy

On the east-facing coast of Normandy's Cotentin Peninsula is Barfleur,
designated one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
Tall homes with steeply-pitched roofs line the road facing the marina where
small, functional boats and many pleasure craft are anchored, safe
from the Channel tides.  It's a charming, off-the-beaten-path place
to park your car, take a stroll, and stop for something to eat or drink.

Farther up the coast is Pointe de Barfleur, which like the village, has
a lighthouse to warn boats of coastal dangers.  This is not the part of
Normandy most tourists visit ~ they are more likely to go to the landing
beaches of World War II ~ perhaps all the more reason for you to explore
the many interesting towns and villages of the Cotentin.  Enjoy
such little-known places as Goury, Sémaphore, Pointe de Querqueville
and, of course, Barfleur!  Be sure to take your camera!

Where to stay:  Manoir de Bellauney near Valognes.  An easy drive
to all the coastal attractions.  Incredible décor in the spacious guest
rooms and a copious breakfast to start off your day!

Le Prieuré in Biron has a new owner . . .

Le Prieuré du Château de Biron

The historic and inviting priory in the hilltop Dordogne village of Biron has a new owner:  Elisabeth Vedier found it as enchanting as we all have, and when it became available to purchase, she took advantage of the offer.  The village is quite special, and visitors will appreciate a visit to the Château de Biron only steps away from the Le Prieuré.

Renaming and redecorating some of the guest rooms, Madame Vedier is eager to welcome guests from April until November of 2009 in one of her five double rooms or self-catering apartment.  The addition of a swimming pool is planned, and guests can also participate in cooking courses offered at various times during the year.

Please do visit Le Prieuré du Château de Biron on our site and see for yourself what a delightful experience awaits you!
