Our Featured B&B:
Château de la Barre
in the serene Sarthe
Château de La Barre
Château de La Barre

Authenticity and a glimpse into history can be found at this enchanting château in one of France's most celebrated regions ~ not far from the royal châteaux of the Loire Valley, Chartres Cathedral and so much more.   Occupied by the same family since the 14th century, this elegant château offers spacious and comfortable en suite guest rooms Chapeland suites as well as two self-catering cottages.  A small chapel is available for intimate wedding ceremonies, too!

Take the TGV to the château from Paris to historic and charming Vendôme ~ you will arrive in only 45 minutes.  You can rent a car at the railway station and drive to the château in less than a half hour.  Or, you can drive directly from Paris in 2.25 hours.  Arriving at the château will be most rewarding, no matter how you choose to get there.

Le Mans car

Château de la Barre
is one of the chosen places to stay for visitors and car enthusiasts who are drawn to the nearby Le Mans Circuit de la Sarthe ~ the world-famous race track.

The guest rooms
are all spacious and comfortable with period French furnishings and views of the gardens from large windows.  The château is on 100 acres, so guest can enjoy leisurely strolls to enhance their stay.

Grand Salle à Manger
Enjoy
buffet breakfasts of grand proportions and dinners at the family table.  Or, experience the Grand Siècle Dinner served in the 17th century dining room with the Count and Countess de Vanssay which includes Champagne cocktails, two different wines, coffee and brandy served on selected evenings of the week.  For those who would like a longer or self-catering stay at La Barre, there are two comfortable apartments in the cottage, one of which has a fully-equipped kitchen.

The Countess has her own travel service, Countess Connections, which you may find very helpful as she can suggest interesting day trips in the region or even help you plan other adventures in France and Europe.

We personally recommend this château for an authentic French experience and a warm welcome from truly charming hosts whose love of their family estate and kindness to their guests is without exception.   Visit Château de la Barre on our site today to see photos of the guest rooms and so much more information.

Château de Détilly

The
Indre-et-Loire location of Château de Détilly could not be better ~ it is convenient to Chinon which is only ten minutes away, and guests will have easy access to the historic cities of Angers, Saumur, and Nantes.  Day trips to Tours, Orléans, Fontevraud Abbey and the royal châteaux of the Loire Valley will leave you with many pleasant memories. The site dates back to the tenth century, while the château itself was built in the sixteenth century,
on the site of an old fortress, following the wars of religion.  The Romanesque chapel, where weddings have been held, dates back to the 13th century, and you can read more historic details on the château's au Château pages.

Château de Janville in the Seine-Maritime

Château de Janville

Château de Janville

Chambre Roses de Ronsard
This lovely château is in the Seine-Maritime département in the commune of Paleul along the magnificent Alabaster coast of the English Channel.  The natural beauty of this area has inspired artists for centuries.  The white cliffs stretch for eighty miles, and it is here that you will find the famed landmark of Etrétat ~  Porte d'Aval arch and L'Aiguille (the Needle) a pillar rising up from the sea.

Etretat and the Côte Albatre

The château offers 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms, sleeping fifteen people very comfortably.  The professional kitchen is perfect for preparing meals for your group to enjoy in the elegant dining room.

Spend time in the heated family pool, and a baby sitter or private chef can be made available upon request.   Nearby is the delightful village of Veulettes sur Mer and its fine beaches, bakeries and supermarkets, and, of course, restaurants for your enjoyment.  The Dieppe Canadian War Cemetery is 38 kilometers away from the château and at 25 kilometers is the ornate Palais Bénédictine in Fécamps, dating back to 1863.  It was here that the lost recipe of a Benedictine monk was found making it possible once again for his liqueur to be produced by Alexandre le Grand.  The museum and art gallery telling this story are well worth a visit.

  Villes et Villages de France

. . . we hope to tempt you to visit these marvelous places
when you are roaming through the French countryside.

Carennac

Carennac

The commune of Carennac is picture-postcard pretty.  Quercy architecture is most sought after in France, and this village is rich in its limestone walls and distinctive tile roofs.  Charm exudes at every turn in the lanes, and your time spent there will be serene and relaxing.  Carennac boasts an 11th century church and cloister and a 16th century castle, along with a medieval priory.  All of this lies in the lush Dordogne River valley beneath the plateau called 'le Causse'.

The Lot département is one of our favorite destinations, sparsely populated, authentic and never overrun with tourists.

Map Lot département

We
hope you will visit the Lot in the near future to enjoy all it has to offer, and include in that visit a few hours or a day in charming Carennac.
