is drawn to and fascinated by the Loire Valley of France. The famous,
historic grand châteaux of the Loire welcome millions of visitors
each year. Therefore, it is even more special to be able to stay in a Loire
Valley château ~ one whose history began in the fifteenth century,
made evident by the moat and tower that still remain to guard its courtyard
entrance. Set on 45 hectares (over one hundred twelve acres) of wooded
Loire Valley parkland, one couldn't ask for a more inviting and delightful
getaway in France.
The castle was built in the eighteenth century incorporating the tower, and subsequent additions were made in the nineteenth century, all beautifully blending to create a harmonious and architecturally pleasing building. (An old legend tells of a donkey, activating the mechanism of the bucket waterwheel to draw water from the moat, who stopped working when the water overflowed from the top of the tower!) On the grounds is also a fine 19th century chapel with a superb stained-glass window. As that century drew to a close, Château du Breuil was owned by the Marquise de Méloise Frenoy, and as recently as 1968 it belonged to the Earl de La Salle. But, it was in 1987 that it was lovingly transformed into a comfortable and peaceful château-hôtel welcoming guests from around the world. In the elegant dining room, delicious regional cuisine and fine wines are offered, and meals can be enjoyed in the park behind the dining room in good weather. Completely renovated in 2008, there are the château is the perfect Loire destination for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Le Verger (the Orchard), is a superb old masonry building located at the edge of the park near the pond, very close to the castle, and was renovated in 2008 with eight new rooms. Today, Le Pavillon des Fleurs (House of Flowers), a fine building from the middle ages, offers the comfort of thirteen additional new rooms on both the ground and first floors. To maintain authenticity, the restoration scrupulously preserved and emphasized the patina of the walls and used Italian stone. Flowers gave the inspiration; and beds are canopied; as with the castle itself, the rooms are air-conditioned and provide flat panel satellite televisions. The château today offers warm hospitality, a highly refined environment and personalized service to all its guests. All guest rooms are furnished with antiques and are equipped with fine bed linens. Beds are queen or king size, and the en suite bathrooms have tubs and/or showers and hair dryers. Rooms provide mini-bars, Internet and WiFi and satellite TV. Some rooms offer silk feather beds which are 100% 'bio', for the ultimate in comfort and restful sleep. For cycling enthusiasts, bicycles can be rented at the château so guests may explore the region on their own or join the "Castle by Bike" tour that passes in front of the property. At less than four kilometers distance one can play golf at the Golf Club at Château de Cheverny or enjoy the nearby tennis courts. Equestrian pursuits are but one kilometer from the château. And, of course, the beauty and charm of the River Loire and the fine towns, castles and vineyards throughout the valley make day trips by automobile very pleasant and rewarding. The château's interior is very sophisticated with both guest and common rooms decorated in a palette of rich colors and soothing pastels creating a soft and warm atmosphere. The salon is a perfect example of the mood achieved by the careful selection of furniture and colors enabling guests to completely relax and enjoy their stay. Bedrooms and suites are designed with the comfort of their occupants in mind as well, and they are beautifully appointed with fine furniture and lovely fabrics and carpets. Your host and hostess will welcome you to their fine home and make every effort to see that your stay at Château du Breuil is one of the happiest memories of your time in France. |
