Relais des Trois Châteaux

The very inviting Relais des Trois Châteaux is so named because it was a post house and restaurant on the route connecting the châteaus of Blois, Chambord and Cheverny.  Founded in 1850 to welcome travelers on foot, by horse and later by car, it became the main relay stop between Blois and Romorantin.  It was possible to stable up to 100 saddle and draft horses as well. The part of the building that adjoins the church next door was a convent.  The restaurant has kept its original name to maintain the traditionLes Trois Marchands.  It has a fine reputation in the region for its superior cuisine and service, and its chefs have earned the prestigious Maîtres Restaurateurs designation. The menu is composed of local fresh products resulting from organic farming and agriculture, and the owners are dedicated to reducing their impact on nature, preserving natural resources and limiting pollution.

Today, this fine hotel is a  holiday destination offering easy access to the three châteaus mentioned as well as so many of the other grand Loire châteaus.  Thirty-five spacious and thoughtfully decorated guest rooms, all en suite, offer travelers the ultimate in comfort and convenience.  There are elevators and accessibility for those with reduced mobility, free WiFi and internet access, and each room has a safe, mini-bar, adjustable air conditioning, flat-screen TV with over 60 channels, and quality bedding.

Visitors to the French countryside come away with pleasant recollections of the delightful and charming villages they came upon around every bend in the road and along meandering rivers.  The Loire Valley , known primarily for its grand châteaux, is no exception.  The tranquil commune of Cour-Cheverny is on an eleven and a half square mile piece of land extending into the Sologne region and was most likely farmland once belonging to the nearby village of Cheverny.  The region produces  AOC wines: The Cour-Cheverny appellation is a dry white wine made from the Romorantin grape. The Cheverny appellations are a Sauvignon Blanc white as well as red and rosé wines primarily from the Gamay grape.  Visitors to this region can tour local vineyards and sample the crisp Loire Valley wines which are still produced in the traditional manner.

The owners, with years of experience in France's hospitality industry, will extend a warm welcome, and they offer six specials from the Gourmet Promenade for two to a guided tour of Château de Cheverny and its grounds or the  Romantic and Gourmet Pause that includes a visit to a nearby chocolate factory. A variety of activities can be arranged for your enjoyment including a forest quad drive, archery, a hot air balloon or helicopter ride over the Loire Valley, kayaking on the River Loire and more.  Bicycles are available at the Relais for guests to explore the region on their own or join the 'Castle by Bike' tour that passes nearby.  Less than a kilometer away is the Golf Club at Château de Cheverny, as is the opportunity for those who would like to ride horses.  The beauty and charm of the River Loire and the fine towns, castles and vineyards throughout the valley make day trips by automobile very pleasant and rewarding.

The hotel is the perfect venue for a wedding of up to 50 guests, with a menu priced from €35 per person. There is no dance floor, however. Business meetings and seminars can be held at Relais des Trois Châteaux in one of three salons for groups from 15 to 100 persons and a cocktail reception for up to 120 people. Each reception salon benefits from natural light and high technology equipment creating an atmosphere favorable to work and concentration.
